Gov. Kemp rejects Trump's stinging criticism

Old wounds brought fresh pain to Georgia's leaders as President Donald Trump's reaction to an endorsement rejection prompted the governor to claim, “Leave my family out of this.”

Facing a pending case in Georgia for allegedly trying to overturn the results of the state's 2020 presidential election was no deterrent for the GOP leader to review a complaint in the Peach State. Taking note of Gov. Brian Kemp's (R) wife Marty Kemp's recently expressed intention to write in her husband's name on Election Day, Trump referenced her in a lengthy jab at the executive and his Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger.

In response, the governor addressed Saturday X while the president was scheduled to appear at a rally in Atlanta, writing, “My focus is on winning this November and saving our country from Kamala Harris and the Democrat, not participating in petty personal insults, attack your fellow Republicans or dwell on the past. You should do the same, Mr. President, and leave my family out of it.”

Trump had posted in part on Truth Social: “He and his wife didn't think he could win. I said, 'I'm telling you you're going to win.' Then he won, he was happy, and his wife said, 'Thank you sir, we can never make up for it!' Now he says he's not going to support me and he's going to 'write in Brian Kemp's name.' Well, I don't want his endorsement, and I don't want his.”

“They were the ones who got Fani Willis and her boyfriend ready to start. He could have ended this farce with a phone call, but he doesn't want to end it because he's a bad boy,” he said of the controversial relationship of the Fulton County district attorney before also discussing former Lt. Gov. “Think about it, I got this guy elected and I didn't want to do what the state Senate wanted on election integrity. He works with Raffensperger, he works with Geoff Duncan, it's all a team. I really think they'd rather see the Party lose Republican to win!

“Brad Raffensperger needs to do his job and make sure this election is not stolen. Brian Kemp should focus his efforts on fighting crime, not fighting Unity and the Republican Party! Trump had insisted .” Their crime rate in Georgia is terrible, their crime rate in Atlanta is the worst, and their economy is average. He should seek UNITY, not retribution, especially against the man who got him the nomination through endorsement and without whom he could never have beaten Stacey Abrams.”

Despite their defenses, the mention of both Georgia officials was met with boos from the crowd at Trump's Saturday rally before Trump went on to say of Kemp: “He's a bad guy. He's a disloyal guy. And he's a governor very normal. Little Brian, little Brian Kemp.”

“I nominated this guy, then I got him elected; without me, he's not nominated and he's not elected. He had no chance of winning either and all he had to do was sign something where the Senate would want to look at the integrity of the elections”, insisted the president while reiterating many of the points of his publication on social networks.
