“Getting shot in the face changes a man”

An apparent turnaround for former President Donald Trump prompted Tucker Carlson to weigh in on what “getting shot in the face” does to a man.

From his initial call to “Fight!” upon his arrival in New Jersey and his Sunday morning departure, the GOP leader had embodied strength, resilience and unwavering determination after Saturday's assassination attempt.

Now, as Trump called for unity and praised God for still being alive, Carlson told Axios that the message was more than just political calculation.

“I think it's real,” said the commentator who was among those scheduled to speak during the week at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. “Being shot in the face changes a man.”

On Sunday, the former commander in chief spoke with Washington Examiner reporter Salena Zito about the historic moment and how he had changed his plans for how he would accept the presidential nomination to close out the convention.

“The speech I was going to deliver on Thursday was going to be a mess. If that hadn't happened, this would have been one of the most incredible speeches.” he held Trump that would reportedly focus on President Joe Biden's failed policies. “Honestly, it's going to be a completely different discourse now.”

“It is an opportunity to unite the country. They gave me this opportunity,” he added, echoed by a Truth Social post the same day that simply said, “UNITE AMERICA!”

A follow-up statement to his initial comments after the assassination attempt echoed the same tone: “Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers yesterday as only God prevented the unthinkable from happening. WE ARE NOT AFRAID, but we will remain steadfast in our faith and defiant in the face of evil.”

“Our love goes out to the other victims and their families. We pray for the recovery of those injured, and we hold in our hearts the memory of the citizen who was so horribly murdered. At this time,” Trump continued, “it is more more important than ever that we stand together and show our true character as Americans, standing strong and determined, and not allowing evil to win.I truly love our country and I love you all, and I look forward to speaking with ours Big Nation this week from Wisconsin.”

Many keen observers caught the president bowing his head before being hit in the ear as he looked at a screen showing data he had been talking about at the time.

The providential move prompted Trump to reflect: “That reality is setting in. I rarely look away from the crowd. If I hadn't at that time, well, we wouldn't be talking today, would we?

In contrast to the president's intent to unify, which Axios reported extended to an order from the GOP leader that “aides not allow convention speakers to update their remarks to fuel outrage over the shooting,” the corporate media continued their usual shenanigans of leveling blame at “rhetoric” and even casting themselves as potential victims.

This included MSNBC's Jen Psaki warning as, before the convention, “unless the programming changes, the rhetoric and the way the programming is set are not actually calming the tone or restoring civility.”
