In a colorful exchange last week with a reporter, Joe Biden broke down when asked about family friend Devon Archer’s recent testimony that the president had met and spoken on the phone with business associates of his son Hunter “I never talked business with anybody. I knew you were going to have a bad question,” the president told Fox News’ Peter Doocy.
“Why is that a bad question?” Doocy asked.
“Because it’s not true!” exclaimed Biden.
The exchange was extraordinary, not only because of its tense atmosphere, but also because the president and his surrogates have moved the goalposts after years of claiming that he had never engaged with Hunter Biden’s business clients.
The shift in messaging reflects a harsh reality: There is now significant evidence and testimony that undermines key claims Joe Biden made about his family’s overseas business to get elected in 2020 and steer clear of scandal growing since then.
