Erratic knife-wielding suspect charges at LAPD officers and is fatally shot [VIDEOS]

A man who was allegedly threatening an elderly man with a knife was shot and killed by Los Angeles Police Department officers in South Los Angeles when the suspect charged at them.

According to LAPD's Tony Im, officers responded to a call of an assault with a deadly weapon in the area at 6:30 p.m. The suspect, later identified as 42-year-old Wilver Blanco, was under the influence of narcotics at the time. of the incident.

Upon arrival in the 100 block of W. Colden Avenue, officers found Blanco with a knife in his right hand, standing behind a parked vehicle. Officers deployed behind their respective doors, but Blanco ignored repeated demands to drop the weapon.

Instead, Blanco climbed onto the rear bumper of a nearby car and ducked before running toward the officers. At this point, officers opened fire to protect themselves and the nearby community.

Blanco was taken to a local hospital, where he died a short time later. The shooting is currently under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department.
