A Key West man has been charged with two additional counts of attempted murder in connection with the shocking incident involving the theft of a tractor from a golf course and its subsequent use to terrorize the College of the Florida Keys.
Ethan Robert Layne, 22, was initially slapped with a single charge of attempted murder following the shocking events that unfolded on May 4. However, it has emerged that in addition to the initial charge, he is now facing four other serious felony charges. with eight more pending, as the authorities have confirmed.

Key West police have revealed that Layne, who worked as a landscaper at the golf course, fled in the tractor and drove it to the university with the alleged intention of harming two people on the premises.
A statement released by the police department explained the harrowing sequence of events, stating, “He drove the tractor through the lobby of the Lagoon Landings dormitory, then used the tractor's bucket attachment to destroy the overhead pipe under the building .Layne then hit a truck in the parking lot and overturned it. Another vehicle was occupied by a man and his four-year-old daughter. The victim saw the tractor pull into his car. front end and crashed into his car. The tractor backed up momentarily and the victim was able to escape the car with his son.”

Law enforcement said Layne also targeted a third vehicle with the tractor, but the driver fortunately managed to evade the attack.
After leaving the college campus, Layne proceeded to drive the tractor onto College Road, prompting several 911 calls as witnesses reported the chaos that was unfolding.
An influx of police officers quickly responded to the scene, with the initial officer encountering the tractor on College Road in front of the transit centre. The press release detailed the alarming encounter, revealing that “Layne pointed the tractor directly at the police car and rammed it, lowering the bucket onto the windshield several times. The officer then fired several rounds at his attacker “.
Layne was later taken into custody without further incident.
Fortunately, no injuries have been reported as a result of the horrific ordeal.
