The congressman's nephew was standing just to the right of the president in the friends and family section. When the shots rang out, chaos ensued. “There were people four or five rows behind them who were seriously injured. “It is incredible that such an act can take place in our country. At the moment, nothing is known about the shooter, who is now dead. A bullet was fired at me that pierced the top of my right ear. I immediately knew something was wrong as I heard a hissing, gunshots and immediately heard the bullet tear through the skin. There was a lot of bleeding so I realized what was going on,” Trump wrote.
At an impromptu news conference in Rehoboth Beach, President Biden condemned the violence, saying, “The idea that there is political violence or violence like this in America is unheard of. It's just not appropriate. Everyone, everyone should condemn it .Everyone I will keep you posted and if I am able to talk to Donald I will let you know.
The FBI has identified the shooter, who died during the incident, as Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania.
