Chart of the Day: Has Comedy Awakened?

The numbers confirm our worst suspicions about big-screen comedies. When was the last gut wrenching feature that rocked the box office? Remember the movie “There’s Something About Mary”. Of course, animated movies tend to be humorous, and some MCU movies offer laughs along with superhero action. But even this content can be dubious.

Some of the old comedies, even a decade ago, couldn’t be done today.

Podcasting giant Joe Rogan said that last year the revival killed comedy. Joe Rogan suggests the new unofficial but binding comedy rulebook makes adult humor a challenge. Check out his comments in the video below.

Making edgy jokes is extremely risky for an aspiring comedian or entertainment producer. It can be career-ending if one makes the wrong comment or scene. So any comedy made today will have to be real “milk toast” from now on, which may make it not even worth watching. The comedy will have to adapt to the new generations of the “Nerf ball” and the “snowflake”.
