California Governor Gavin Newsom announces his decision on the presidency in 2024

California’s Democratic governor, Gavin Newsom, has been a top choice among some Democrats who want an alternative to President Joe Biden in 2024.

But the governor again shut down that idea, saying he stands behind President Biden if he decides to run again, Politico reported.

“I’ve told everyone in the White House, from the chief of staff to the first lady,” he said.

Newsom relayed the same to Biden himself on election night.

After spending much of the evening with family, aides and supporters at the governor’s mansion watching the Democrats’ surprisingly strong results, the governor headed to a Sacramento hotel to briefly celebrate his own spectacular re-election and proclaim the ‘approval of an electoral measure that enshrined the rights to abortion. in the California constitution.

“We have clearly stated with conviction that we are a true state of freedom,” Newsom told reporters. He contrasted California, and himself, with the books and abortion-banning governors of other states who also won re-election but remained unnamed. Or at least they explicitly did, until Newsom alluded to the one “flying migrants to an island.”

It seems to have all the makings of the classic political preview, a close attraction, as they say, 400 miles by 5. Here was the next-generation Democrat, recently re-elected, from a mega-state, with his young family and shouting. the recently re-elected and new generation Republican from another megastate just hours after DeSantis claimed victory on stage with his young family.

“I’m all in; make me a coach”, he said to the president. “We’ve got your back.”

“He didn’t just beat Trump once, I think he can beat him again,” he said. “I hope he runs, I will support him enthusiastically.”

“It’s frustrating because I have a lot of reverence and respect not only for the president but also for the vice president, he’s an old friend, because of all these interesting things you like to write about, we’ve known each other for 25 years.” he said

An official from the administrations of President Ronald Reagan, as well as Bush 41 and Bush 43, has floated a plan in which Democrats could elevate left-wing California Gov. Gavin Newsom to the presidency without ever having been elected.

In a column for The Hill, consultant Douglas MacKinnon, who was White House staff writer for Presidents Ronald Reagan and George HW Bush, as well as special assistant for policy and communications at the Pentagon during the last three years of George W .The Bush administration wrote that President Joe Biden could essentially install Newsom, who has been mentioned as a potential Democratic candidate in 2024 anyway.

After seeing last week’s midterm elections turn out better than expected for Democrats, the fact remains that both Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris remain underwater in terms of their approval ratings. As such, this leaves the party in a precarious position ahead of the next presidential election now less than two years away.

He also stated that “Trump fatigue” will likely lead voters at the polls to vote against him and, perhaps, Republican candidates, but added the possibility that Trump will not run or, at best, do not become the candidate of his party.

“I’ve written that I don’t think Trump will run, but he’ll drag out the anticipation as long as possible to keep his ‘brand’ in the news and campaign donations. If he does, he’s declaring that he won’t be a candidate in 2024, how much energy will leak out of the Democratic voting machine? Potentially quite a bit,” MacKinnon noted.

Trump is scheduled to make a major announcement from his Mar-a-Lago estate on Tuesday evening.

“That possibility, coupled with the drag that Biden and Harris are already giving to Democrats’ chances of retaining the White House in 2024, raises a critical strategy question for their party: Democrats are ruling out both Biden and Harris or do they keep them and more than likely lose to a strong Republican ticket of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and, perhaps, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley?” continued the consultant and former GOP administration official.

After noting that Tuesday’s election results once again show that the country is deeply divided and that there isn’t much political healing in the offing, MacKinnon laid out the plan:

This reality speaks to the need for a proven voter with a lot of money and a logistical machine behind it. In Politics 101, California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) meets, perhaps even exceeds, those qualifications.

Newsom easily won re-election and now has the luxury of turning his ambitious eyes fully on the White House. The question then becomes: Will his party turn to him as the person who could save him from the Biden-Harris dilemma he is surely about to face?

If the answer is “yes”, the “solution” really isn’t complicated at all. In one scenario, Biden could ask Harris to resign and replace her with Newsom, who would then become the heir apparent for 2024. Or Biden could replace Harris with Newsom and then resign, making Newsom president before 2024 and arming- it with all the force. of the Oval Office.
