California’s Democratic governor, Gavin Newsom, has been a top choice among some Democrats who want an alternative to President Joe Biden in 2024.
But the governor again shut down that idea, saying he stands behind President Biden if he decides to run again, Politico reported.
“I’ve told everyone in the White House, from the chief of staff to the first lady,” he said.
Newsom relayed the same to Biden himself on election night.
After spending much of the evening with family, aides and supporters at the governor’s mansion watching the Democrats’ surprisingly strong results, the governor headed to a Sacramento hotel to briefly celebrate his own spectacular re-election and proclaim the ‘approval of an electoral measure that enshrined the rights to abortion. in the California constitution.
“We have clearly stated with conviction that we are a true state of freedom,” Newsom told reporters. Trump is scheduled to make a major announcement from his Mar-a-Lago estate on Tuesday evening.

Newsom easily won re-election and now has the luxury of turning his ambitious eyes fully on the White House. The question then becomes: Will his party turn to him as the person who could save him from the Biden-Harris dilemma he is surely about to face?
If the answer is “yes”, the “solution” really isn’t complicated at all. In one scenario, Biden could ask Harris to resign and replace her with Newsom, who would then become the heir apparent for 2024. Or Biden could replace Harris with Newsom and then resign, making Newsom president before 2024 and arming- it with all the force. of the Oval Office.
