Byron Donalds Reminds Democrats Of Their Senator Who “Lied About His Service” (VIDEO)

On Wednesday, Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) went off on Democrats, including Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), for their treatment of former President Donald Trump and reminded them of their own senator who “lied about his service.”

Donalds was speaking during a House Judiciary Committee hearing on the “Oversight of the Department of Justice” when he made the remarks.

“I’m just curious,” Donalds said. “Where was the outrage from the other side of the aisle when their very own senator, Senator Blumenthal, lied about his service in Vietnam?”

Donalds was referring to the fact that Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) claimed for years that he had served in the Vietnam War when, in fact, he had not. Blumenthal had served in the Marine Corps Reserve during the Vietnam War, but was never deployed to the country.

Donalds used the example of Blumenthal to illustrate what he saw as a double standard from Democrats when it comes to holding people accountable for their words and actions.

“It’s interesting to me that we can talk about holding people accountable, but when it’s someone that’s on their side of the aisle, it’s a completely different standard,” Donalds said.

Donalds’ comments come as many Democrats have called for Trump to be held accountable for his role in the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol. The House of Representatives voted to impeach Trump for “incitement of insurrection” in connection with the attack, and the Senate is currently holding an impeachment trial.

Donalds’ comments were met with immediate backlash from some Democrats, including Rep. Ted Lieu (D-CA).

“Byron Donalds’ false equivalency is a disgrace,” Lieu tweeted. “Sen. Blumenthal was wrong to make false statements about his service. But he did not incite an insurrection. He did not try to overturn an election. He did not break the law.”

Regardless of the backlash, Donalds’ comments serve as an important reminder that Democrats should hold their own accountable for their words and actions, just as they are demanding of Republicans.
