An asylum seeker allegedly raped a woman in front of a child in New York

-

A Venezuelan man seeking asylum in the United States has been charged last week with raping a woman in front of a 3-year-old boy in a New York City-funded hotel room, authorities said.

Prosecutors say Jesus Guzman-Bermudez, 26, and the victim were staying at a hotel in Cheektowaga that was paid for by the Adams administration. along with 500 other migrants who were recently bussed from New York City to Erie County.

Guzman-Bermúdez was arrested and charged with rape, unlawful imprisonment and endangering the welfare of a child, as the alleged rape took place in front of a 3-year-old boy who was in the room of the hotel. Erie County District Attorney John Flynn told WBEN.

“The social worker reported it up his chain of command. Ultimately, we ended up getting Cheektowaga police involved and started an investigation,” Flynn told the network.

Flynn said the victim and Guzman-Bermúdez knew each other, although their relationship remains unclear.

“I’m not sure if they’re married or not, but they’re definitely some kind of couple,” Flynn said.

“It wasn’t like an incident where this individual went out into the city, picked up a victim and took her to the hotel room. That’s not the case here. They clearly knew each other,” he added.

The alleged incident took place last Wednesday inside a hotel on Genesee Street in Cheektowaga, a suburb of Buffalo.

An Erie County spokesman confirmed to The Post on Wednesday that New York City had met the suspect’s hotel payment, as Mayor Adams said the migrant crisis has pushed the city “more beyond its breaking point.”

Adams began ferrying migrants to several upstate hotels amid an influx of more than 90,000 border crossings since last spring, a move. northern officials were vehemently opposed.

The influx costs on average in the city $383 per night for 25,500 asylum seekers homes, officials said Wednesday, warning that the cost could top $12 billion over the next three years.

“With over 57,300 people currently in our care on an average night, that comes to $9.8 million a day. Almost $300 million a month and almost $3.6 billion a year,” he said on Wednesday mayor, warning that expenses could rise even further.

“Our new estimates have us spending nearly $5 billion on this crisis in the current fiscal year!” Adams warned.

Guzmán-Bermúdez is currently being held without bail. He is scheduled to return to court Wednesday for a felony hearing.

A temporary protection order was issued on behalf of the victim.

If convicted of the highest charge, Guzmán Bermúdez faces a maximum of 25 years in prison.
