Amazon has announced that it has signed a deal with SpaceX to launch three of Elon Musk's Falcon 9 rockets to support the deployment of its Project Kuiper, the e-commerce giant's low-Earth orbit satellite broadband network .
Kuiper is designed to host multiple providers and launch vehicles, and aims to build a constellation of 3,236 satellites in low Earth orbit. The first pair of prototype satellites for the project were successfully launched on October 6.
SpaceX's Starlink also aims to provide broadband internet worldwide with its constellation of 5,000 satellites. Falcon 9 launches aim to lift off in mid-2025, and Amazon aims to start manufacturing satellites in the first half of 2024. The company hopes to have enough satellites deployed to begin the first customer pilots in the second half of 2024.
This deal highlights SpaceX's dominance in the space launch industry as it continues to lead the way in transporting hardware into space. While there are competitors such as Blue Origin, they have not been able to achieve the same level of success as SpaceX.
