All-Star hopes fade as Oilers dominate in Game 5

The Dallas Stars, who once sat comfortably in the NHL Western Conference Finals, are now on the brink of elimination.

The Edmonton Oilers have secured a best-of-seven series lead three games to two after a 3-1 win on Friday night and need just one more win to secure a spot in the playoffs. Stanley Cup for the first time in nearly two decades.

The Oilers caught fire Friday night when Ryan Nugent-Hopkins finally gained some momentum in Game 5, scoring his first two goals of the series. Edmonton's suffocating defense didn't hurt their cause either, allowing just ten shots on goal through the first two periods.

Dallas will look to rally and force a Game 7 series, joining fellow Dallas Mavericks in their respective league championships.
