Aaron Rodgers is on his way back from a torn Achilles this season, with the New York Jets quarterback opening his 21-day practice window to return from injured reserve.
Rodgers, who will turn 40 on Saturday, ruptured his Achilles in just his fourth time as a New York Jet, but just days later, he said “anything is possible” in terms of a comeback this year. The Jets earlier this week opened their 21-day practice window to return from injured reserve.
If Rodgers returns by his target date of Dec. 24, it would be 104 days since his injury. He has also said that an earlier return is not necessarily out of the question.
There is, however, a fear that Rodgers is not 100% healthy and could re-injure his Achilles. But Rodgers says that's not exactly the worst thing in the world.
Considering he's come so far from an Achilles tear in about two and a half months, Rodgers would have a much longer timetable to return if he suffered a similar injury before this season ends.
Rodgers says he plans to revamp his practice regimen next week, but he still has a ways to go. He says he can pitch, drop back and do some things in a small circle, but he doesn't think he can guard as well as he'd like to right now.
Rodgers has said the Jets' rapidly dwindling playoff implications will play a big role in whether he returns. Gang Green is 4-7 after losing four straight. They have just three offensive touchdowns in their last five games.
