As union voters shift their support to Republicans, Democrats are increasingly concerned that their once-trusted voting bloc could now threaten President Joe Biden's re-election bid.

Although Biden captured the union vote by a significant margin in 2020, recent polls indicate the self-proclaimed “The most unionist president” could have received their support for fact, as his lead has dropped to single digits. Democratic lawmakers have begun to realize that their efforts to win the union vote “are not translating into electoral support.”

“We have to worry” Democratic Rep. Dan Kildee of Michigan said axes “We can't assume people are going to figure it out for themselves. We have to tell the story.”

“Democrats must recognize that this affiliation [with union leadership] … it's not translating into electoral support,” the Democratic representative. Dean Phillips of Minnesota, which challenged Biden in the 2024 presidential race, he told Axios. “[Democrats] should listen and find ways to engage more with grassroots work.”

The latest poll has indicated a shift in union support for Democrats. In 2020, Biden beat Trump by 16 points, according to NBC exit polls. In Michigan alone, Biden led Trump among union voters by 25 points, they said ABC News 2020 Exit Poll.

But as of 2024, Biden's lead has plummeted to just nine points in February, according to a NBC poll. A March Quinnipiac Poll The poll of Michigan voters also shows Biden leading by nine points. (RELATED: Union manager details why members are 'fed up' with Biden's policies, says Trump has a chance)

These lackluster numbers came after one of the most in America powerful unions he did his first major contribution from the GOP in two decades.

Before that donation, the Teamsters gave $135,000 to the Democratic National Committee (DNC) in December 2023 and gave another $15,000 in March earlier that year, according to The Washington Post. This donation follows a meeting former President Donald Trump had with tthe union the executive board of the Teamsters' Washington, DC, headquarters in January. On January 4, so did Trump met with Sean O'Brienpresident of the Teamsters, in an attempt to wipe out votes that might otherwise go to Democrats.
