Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.) suggested that President Joe Biden’s inaction in pressuring Israel to end its war against Hamas as leftists have demanded could come back to bite him in next year’s election.
The queen bee of the Progressive Caucus appeared on NBC’s flagship Sunday morning “Meet the Press” where she discussed the situation in Gaza as the Israelis have stepped up airstrikes ahead of a ground offensive to eliminate the terrorist organization responsible for the massacre of more than 1,300 of its own. citizens and the reluctance of the White House to demand a ceasefire.
Biden faces complaints among the anti-Semitic elements who have taken up residence in the Democratic party’s big tent, much of it from the tight-lipped collection of far-left lawmakers known as “The Squad” and , according to Jayapal, the octogenarian leader is at risk of alienation. a part of his own base if he doesn’t bow to the crowd.
The host raised concerns that Biden would lose support in Michigan, home of Israel-hating bomb-thrower Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), whose district includes heavily Muslim Dearborn, and if his ” full support” to the Jews. democracy will hurt him next November.
I WILL SEE: @RepJayapal (D-Wash.) has been “one of President Biden’s biggest supporters,” but worries that his response to Israel will cost him support from Arab and Muslim voters.

“This also came against the backdrop of Congressman Dean Phillips announcing that he was running against President Biden, are you concerned that in a general election, those two things could weaken President Biden’s chances?” Welker asked, referring to the Minnesota congressman’s surprise entry into the race.
“I’ve been one of President Biden’s biggest supporters,” Jayapal responded, praising Biden’s disastrous domestic policies, while Welker again asked if he would be weakened by his support for Israel.
“The president needs to be just as brave on this issue to maintain unity within our country because of the support for the incredible things he’s done,” the far-left Democrat said. “I think, you know, he’s going to be challenged to explain an issue of this moral importance to people.”
The American people are actually quite far from where the president and even Congress, most of Congress, have been on Israel and Gaza. They support Israel’s right to defend itself, to exist, but they do not support a war crime exchanged for another war crime. And I think the president has to be careful with that,” he added, echoing Hamas propaganda that Israel is guilty of war crimes.
“And I think the president needs to be careful about that and I would call him because I know him well,” he continued. “I’ve had breakfast with him, I’ve had the honor of working with him, I’d call him to take us to a higher place.”
“I’m certainly concerned about their approach,” he added. “The point is, I want President Biden to be the next president, and he has to call us to a higher moral place.”
The Seattle Democrat wasn’t coming from a higher place when she denounced Israel as a “racist state” at a left-wing political event in July, days before Israeli President Isaac Herzog was scheduled to deliver a joint address to Congress .

“I want you to know that we have been fighting to make it clear that Israel is a racist state,” Jayapal declared, “that the Palestinian people deserve self-determination and autonomy, that the dream of a two-state solution is slipping away from us.” … that doesn’t even seem possible.”
