Glenn Greenwald explained how they are using the old Espionage Act of 1917 to try to take down President Trump.
The Espionage Act of 1917, under which Donald Trump is currently indicted, is a draconian law that has been cynically weaponized against whistleblowers and journalists for years, with cases skyrocketing under the Obama Administration.

But what is really going on here? We have a very popular former president who everyone says has “no chance” of winning an election, but everyone is frantically trying to stop him. what gives If Trump can’t “win”, why bother trying to stop him? Let him run and embarrass himself, right? The truth is, we are all fully aware that Trump can win and probably would have won in 2020 if it weren’t for a sprinkling of mail-in voting for everyone during a so-called “pandemic.” Which brings us to MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow’s recent “accidental” admission. He appears to have inadvertently revealed the plot when he suggested that the Justice Department might reach a deal with Trump, dropping the charges in exchange for his promise never to run again.
Yes, now, that makes perfect, sinister sense…
MSNBC host Rachel Maddow questioned whether former President Donald Trump’s indictment could be dropped in exchange for Trump dropping out of the 2024 presidential race and being barred from running again.
“You have to wonder if the Department of Justice is considering if there’s any policy solution to this criminal problem,” Maddow said on Thursday’s The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell on MSNBC, citing the 1973 resignation of Former Vice President Spiro Agnew, after news of Trump’s impeachment:
If part of the problem here is not just that Trump has committed crimes, but that Trump has committed crimes and plans to return to the White House. Are they considering as part of a possible plea offer, something that would bar him…bar him from running for office again? I do not know.
Host Lawrence O’Donnell responded: “I would imagine if something like that were to happen, it would have to come from the defense side of the negotiation. That the Trump team would say, ‘Oh, by the way, and with this, too, you know, we will abandon the race for the presidency’”.
Trump-Russia conspiracy theorist @Maddow says he “has to wonder” if the DOJ would drop Trump’s case in exchange for him not “running for office” again. @Lawrence reminds him that this is exactly what Trump accuses the DOJ of trying to accomplish: pic.twitter.com/ivP9pGSCSJ

As a country, we are now in a situation where our government will do absolutely anything to maintain its control over the American people. It is truly disheartening to see how far we have drifted from the vision our founding fathers had for this nation. The alarming lines we cross today will have lasting consequences for generations to come. These are very scary times to be an American.
