Turkey announced today that it had finally achieved “nuclear status” when it received its first batch of nuclear fuel from Russia.

Türkiye gained the status of a nuclear-powered country as its first power plant, the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), received the initial batch of nuclear fuel in a ceremony held on Thursday.

The ceremony, which granted Akkuyu the status of a “nuclear” plant, Turkey’s first, was attended by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin via video conference.

With the delivery of nuclear fuel by air and sea, the Akkuyu power plant has become a nuclear facility, Erdoğan said at the ceremony.

“Turkey has risen to the league of nuclear-powered countries in the world, albeit after a 60-year delay,” the president said.

Erdogan said the EU removes obstacles by accepting nuclear power as green energy, adding: “We have made our country a part of this development with Akkuyu.”

The Akkuyu nuclear power plant is Turkey’s “biggest joint investment” with Russia, Erdogan said.

The plant will be fully operational by 2028 and supply 10 percent of Turkey’s electricity consumption, the president also said, noting that the Akkuyu project will contribute $1.5 billion (TL 29.15 billion) annually to reduce imports of natural gas from Turkey and will have a “positive impact”. ” the national income.

Putin, for his part, said during the joint press conference that it would be difficult to talk about “success” if there were no leaders like President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Russia will continue to help cover Turkey’s energy needs, Putin added.

The Akkuyu nuclear power plant is being built by Russia’s state-owned atomic energy company Rosatom in Mersin province on the southern Mediterranean coast.

The first of its four reactors is scheduled to come online in the first half of this year. Akkuyu will eventually have the capacity to supply around 10% of Turkey’s electricity needs. (Full article.)

Turkey’s association with Russia, despite being a member of NATO, is another dramatic example of how the political landscape in the Middle East is rapidly changing as the region seeks to sever its ties with the United States and US global energy dominance.

Turkish revenge against Europe?

Being the only Muslim country in NATO, Turkey also has the largest number of NATO armed forces outside the US, and is a strategic country that spans both Europe and the Middle East.

Last year they settled their differences with Saudi Arabia over the 2018 killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi in Istanbul, and last month (March 2023) Saudi Arabia deposited $5 billion into the Central Bank of Turkey to help boost its economy. (Source.)

With the help of China and Russia, Saudi Arabia is becoming a dominant player in Middle Eastern politics and energy as they begin to forge new relationships with other nations in the East Half ruled mainly by the Shiite faction of Islam in countries such as Iran, Syria and Yemen. Turkey has been part of the talks on Syria, where they still have military forces present fighting Kurdish separatists.

Since 1959, Turkey has continuously tried to enter the European Union, but its neighbor and long-time enemy, Greece, has been the main obstacle to gaining EU membership, mainly on the island of Cyprus, which is half. ruled by Greece and half ruled by Turkey.

But Europe has had no problem with Turkey being part of NATO, as they have benefited from the huge Turkish military, and the US has a large Air Force base in southern Turkey near Syria.

Now, while Europe is reeling from the loss of cheap energy imports from Russia, Turkey can be glad it never won EU membership and never adopted the euro.

Oil: the commodity that now unites former enemies?

As an example of how dramatically the geopolitical map is rapidly changing today, Turkey’s historic archenemy since the end of World War I, Greece, is now inviting Turkey to join the newly formed Eastern Mediterranean Gas Forum, which started in November 2019. .

What has been the cause of wars and bitter rival enemies for decades that have caused death and destruction, mainly due to the policies of the American globalists and their thugs in the CIA, oil, now , ironically, may become the commodity that unites former enemies as they fight against US energy dominance.

Check out the member nations that are part of this newly created Eastern Mediterranean Gas Forum, which Greece is inviting Turkey to join.

Throughout history, the Eastern Mediterranean region has played a prominent role in helping to shape our modern world today. Located at the crossroads of three continents – Africa, Asia and Europe – it has made it essential for trade and key to culture for millennia.

Over the last decade, many important gas discoveries have been made in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Recognizing the great prospects, opportunities and resource challenges, it became clear that the full potential of the Eastern Mediterranean gas basin can only be unlocked if suppliers, buyers and transit countries in the Eastern Mediterranean region cooperate to develop an infrastructure for gas trading in the region. and with external markets.

This scheme was the basis for the creation of the Eastern Mediterranean Gas Forum “EMGF” as a platform for gas producing, consuming and transit countries.

In 2018, Egypt presented an Initiative to establish the Eastern Mediterranean Gas Forum as a platform for structured political dialogue on natural gas, leading to the development of a sustainable regional gas market that could unlock the full potential of gas resources in the Eastern Mediterranean region.

During the tripartite summit held in October 2018 in Crete, the leaders of Egypt, Cyprus and Greece declared their intentions to establish the Forum, therefore greater coordination with regional parties and international organizations took place.

The Egyptian initiative was welcomed and sincerely adopted by the rest the Founding Partners; Cyprus, Greece, Israel, Italy, Jordan and Palestine (along with Egypt) as an initiative that lays the groundwork for a structured political dialogue leading to the development of a regional gas market to unlock the full potential of gas resources and set the stage for multilateral and comprehensive trade. Wait What?? An organization made up of Muslim, Jewish and Christian countries cooperating together “in the development of an infrastructure for gas trade in the region and with foreign markets”?

And now Greece is inviting its archenemy Turkey to join as well?

Greece expects the thaw in relations with Turkey to continue after the election

Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias said he expects the thaw in relations with Turkey to continue after the two countries hold elections in May.

“Greece is always looking for ways to have honest and sincere cooperation with Turkey,” Dendias said after talks in Athens with his Egyptian counterpart, Sameh Shoukry.

Greek and Turkish officials have held a series of high-level meetings in recent weeks, following devastating earthquakes in southern Turkey in February. They promised to shelve the disputes that have led to repeated rounds of tension and even an increased risk of war for decades.

Dendias said Athens would welcome new members of an association of eastern Mediterranean nations cooperating on natural gas development. Türkiye is not currently a member.
