14-year-old boy accused of robbing 11 people at gunpoint in 45 minutes, Chicago police say

A 14-year-old boy has been charged with robbing 11 people at gunpoint in a 45-minute span in Chicago last week.

What are the details?

The boy is suspected of robbing a 29-year-old man in the 1100 block of West Taylor Street around 1:50 a.m. on July 25. The Chicago Sun-Times reportedadding that five minutes later he allegedly stole the belongings of a 38-year-old woman and a 45-year-old man a few blocks away in the 1100 block of South Canal Street.

Then, about five minutes later, he allegedly robbed a 36-year-old woman and a 24-year-old man in the 700 block of West Taylor Street, the newspaper said, citing police.

Police he told WFLD-TV The boy then took property at gunpoint from:

  • a 28-year-old woman in the 2400 block of South Canal Street around 2:20 a.m.
  • a 44-year-old man in the 2500 block of South Halsted Street around 2:24 a.m.
  • a 41-year-old man and a 39-year-old man in the 1100 block of West Chicago Avenue around 2:30 a.m.
  • a 30-year-old man and a 31-year-old man in the 1200 block of North Milwaukee Avenue around 2:35 a.m.

Police arrested the teenager several hours later in the 2400 block of West Belmont Avenue after he was identified as one of several suspects involved in the robberies, the station said.

The Sun-Times said the boy faces several charges ranging from armed robbery to misdemeanor battery and criminal trespass to a vehicle.

Something else?

Another series of early morning armed robberies happened in just over three hours Tuesday, between 2:50 a.m. and 6:05 a.m., in several South Side Chicago neighborhoods, police told WFLD in one separate story.

Police told the station that a group of three to seven men, described as wearing black clothing and ski masks, approached the victims at gas stations, took their property at gunpoint and fled with a silver/gray Hyundai Sonata.
