DeSantis goes to California and trashes Gavin Newsom in his own backyard

Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis ripped California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom during a speech Sunday at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley.

“I knew you had a lot of problems here, but your governor is very concerned about what we’re doing in Florida, so I thought I should come,” DeSantis joked.

DeSantis said Ronald Reagan “understood the vital role government had to play” and how it could be a “negative force if not applied properly.”

“And I think if you look at the last four or five years, and you look at the performance of individual states, and you compare Florida to California, New York, Illinois, some of these other states, we’ve had a great experiment, a great test for governing philosophies,” he said. “Because of course, we know, we approach things very differently than you have out here, very differently in Florida than they have in New York and Illinois.”

“And if you look at the last four years, we’ve seen a huge American exodus from states run by left-wing politicians who impose a left-wing ideology and deliver bad results, and we’ve seen massive gains in states like Florida, who govern according to the tried and true principles that President Reagan loved,” he continued. “From the beginning of the history of this state, until the last four or five years, people went to California. You didn’t go a long way from California. And yet now you see how the population of the state he’s bleeding.”

DeSantis said Florida has become a beacon of freedom while states like California have become a “biomedical security state” because of Woke’s politics instead of medical science.

“And I can tell you that we had families move from the Pacific coast, just because we had schools open in Florida, when we didn’t have them open in a lot of other states,” he said. “We did things like ban vaccine passports in the state of Florida. States said, you want to go stay in a hotel, go to a restaurant, you have to get your vax papers with these shots mRNA. And we said that was none of their business. Everyone has a right to participate in society. It’s a personal choice you make whether you take it or not, and we’re not going to let you be excluded.”

“Now, what ended up happening because we made one of the things that ended up happening was in 2021, Florida set a national tourism record,” he said. “If you compare the change in California tourism from 2019 to 2021, California tourism decreased by 22%.”

Ironically, Governor Gavin Newsom is being criticized for fleeing the state of California on “personal trips” while hundreds remain trapped in snow-covered mountain communities.

A week after a blizzard stranded residents of Crestline, Lake Arrowhead and other towns in the San Bernardino Mountains, Townhall reported, Newsom finally declared a state of emergency. However, as of Saturday, the California National Guard had not arrived in the areas, the report added.

Sen. Ted Cruz had the perfect feeling upon learning of Gavin Newsom’s exodus from the state.
