Buttigieg’s ‘Equity’ team seeks to end ‘racist’ private car ownership: ‘All cars are bad’

Democratic President Joe Biden’s “woke” transportation secretary, Pete Buttigieg, has formed a team of “equity experts” that aims to end private car ownership.

Buttigieg has been busy allocating tax dollars to appoint a panel of “leading experts” to advise him on “transportation equity”.

Several members of Buttigieg’s Marxist “fairness” team argue that cars cause “climate change” and “promote racism” and should therefore be phased out.

It’s not just traditional petrol vehicles that are being targeted, however, as ‘experts’ insist that ‘all cars are bad’, including electric vehicles.

Earlier this month, Buttigieg named 24 new members to its Transport Equity Advisory Committee.

The committee is an Obama-era body that Buttigieg is resurrecting after President Donald Trump’s administration scrapped it.

Andrea Marpillero-Colomina is on the committee.

Marpillero-Colomina is a so-called “space policy scholar” who he says “ALL CARS ARE BAD” as they cause “a myriad of environmental problems and conditions”.

Another Buttigieg member, self described “Transport Nerd” Veronica Davis, argued in an August essay that cars perpetuate “systemic racism” and are therefore “the problem” with the American transportation system.

Buttigieg’s appointments, and his decision to revive the equity advisory committee, reflect the Biden administration’s government-wide emphasis on diversity, equity and inclusion, according to the Washington Free Beacon.

President Joe Biden shortly after taking office in 2021 issued one executive order which called on federal agencies to “pursue a comprehensive approach to advancing equity for all.”

According to the order, agency heads must conduct an “equity assessment” to identify policies that create “systemic barriers” in minority communities.

The committee will advise Buttigieg on “promising practices for institutionalizing equity in agency programs, policies, regulations and activities” and plans to meet for the first time this fall, according to Buttigieg’s Aug. announcement.

Marbler-Column told the Washington Free Beacon that he’s not “advocating for the complete erasure” of cars, but instead aims to push Buttigieg to move America away from its reliance on private motor vehicles.

“My interest in being in the [equity committee] is to raise the question and push the Department for Transport to really think about: What are some equitable, environmentally sustainable, economically beneficial and feasible alternatives to car-centric policy? he said in an interview.

“How can we reimagine the streets to prioritize people instead of cars?

“How can we create streets that include modes other than cars?”

Davis is likely to pursue similar goals in committee.

Davis in July launched a book titled, Inclusive Transport: A Manifesto for Repairing Divided Communitieswhich advocates for “a different way of thinking” to “address the healing of car damage”.

“Not to oversimplify transportation issues, but all roads lead to cars,” Davis he wrote in an August essay adapted from his book.

“This is not anti-car propaganda, but vehicles have wreaked havoc on the environment and communities. …

“Racism shaped urban and suburban areas, where we still see its residual effects today.”

In addition to Marpillero-Colomina and Davis, Buttigieg tapped Oliver Sellers-Garcia, who serves as Boston Democratic Mayor Michelle Wu’s Green New Deal director, to serve on the committee.

The city’s Green New Deal programrun by Sellers-Garcia, calls for Boston to transition from cars and adopt a “multimodal” transportation plan.

“We must make it not only possible but preferable for residents to leave behind traffic- and pollution-inducing fossil fuel vehicles,” the city’s plan states.

However, this is far from the first time Buttigieg has shown open hostility towards carpooling.

In January, Buttigieg’s agency released a “climate plan” aimed at reducing the transport sector “carbon emissions.”

The plan includes a call to reduce “commuting miles” through “increased remote working and virtual engagements”.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted significant opportunities for telecommuting, with some studies showing the potential for a 10% long-term reduction in annual vehicle miles driven,” the plan says.

Biden has similarly moved to phase out gas cars in favor of electric ones.

The Democratic president’s Environmental Protection Agency and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in recent months introduced regulations that would require automakers to ensure that two-thirds of the vehicles they sell are electric by 2032.

For Marpillero-Colomina, a member of the equity commission, however, electric vehicles “are not the silver bullet”.

“If we just replace all gas cars with electric vehicles, we’re going to have a lot of the same problems we have with gas cars,” he said. free lighthouse.
