The Boy Scouts of America is inviting “LGBTQ” advocacy to its national camp jamboree in West Virginia.
The legal profession was applauded by LGBTQ attorney Mike De Socio al Washington Post. “There is value in the kind of place it is becoming: one where any child, of any race, gender or sexual orientation, feels at home,” De Socio wrote.
De Socio has campaigned for an official welcome to gays and lesbians, as well as to transsexuals – called “transgender” – in the national organization. This demand contradicted the organization’s original purpose of redirecting and subsuming the energy of young people to help guide them through their turbulent teenage years and puberty.
The current welcome for chaotic sexual diversity it is offered to teenagers as the listening movement is reduced. There were only 15,000 scouts at the 2023 jamboree compared to 40,000 at the 2013 event.
The decline comes despite the reception policiesnot through their fault, De Socio insisted:
The low attendance reflects the weather-beaten state of the Boy Scouts of America. Although its doors are now open to children of all gender identities and sexual orientations, fewer than ever accept the invitation. The organization lost almost half of its members between 2019 and 2020. This national event represents one of its first steps out of the generational nadir brought on by the pandemic, a sexual abuse scandal and a consequent bankruptcy.
The BSA had barely resolved its struggle over membership policies, fully admitting it gay men in 2015 i trans boys in 2017and then [girls] in 2018 — before facing a barrage of sexual abuse allegations.

But the agitation had an advantage. Scouts within the ranks used the moment to push for a focus on diversity, equity and inclusion. A collective called “Scouts for Black Lives” with success he boosted the organization commit to a list of projects, including a new diversity merit badge required for the Eagle Scout rank.

The Scouts face competition from organizations that follow the original Scouting approach to adolescent character development.

Political and cultural change in the Scouts organization was driven by major business leaders, many of whom influence the organization’s external funding. Breitbart News reported in 2017:
The scout group board is dominated by progressive inclination corporate executives, including AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson, who is now lobbying against a Texas bill to protect the sexual privacy of K-12 children, amid pressure from transgender groups to allow boys into the girls’ bathroom and shower facilities. “The CEOs and top executives of more than a dozen major Dallas-based corporations, including American Airlines, AT&T and BNSF Railway, delivered letters to [GOP leaders] denouncing the bathroom bill as a proposal that would “severely harm the state’s ability to attract new business, investment and jobs,” according to the Texas Tribune.
The establishment policy of maximizing diversity, especially through K-12 schools and immigration, is fracturing many civic groups and social norms that help ordinary young people manage their lives amid normal human pressures and ‘fast changing economy.
