AOC says Feinstein ‘should step down’

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (DN.Y.) has declared that Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) should resign from office.

Feinstein, who turns 90 next month, has been sidelined for quite some time since she was given the shingles earlier this year — some Democratic lawmakers have called for her to step down.

Democratic Rep. Nancy Pelosi of California said last month that she had never seen people target a sick senator like this.

According to CNN, Ocasio-Cortez stated on the social media platform Bluesky that Feinstein “should step down,” adding: “I think the criticism of this stance as ‘anti-feminist’ is a farce. Her refusal to to withdraw or run is causing great damage to the judiciary, precisely where the reproduction rights are being withdrawn. This failure means that now in this precious window the Dems can only pass GOP-approved nominees.” point out Ocasio-Cortez, according to the medium.

Feinstein, who has served in the U.S. Senate for more than three decades, announced in February that she will not seek re-election in 2024.

“When I was first diagnosed with shingles, I expected to return at the end of the March work period. Unfortunately, my return to Washington has been delayed due to ongoing complications related to my diagnosis,” Feinstein said in a announced last month. “I intend to return as soon as possible when my medical team advises me that it is safe to travel. In the meantime, I remain committed to work and will continue to work from home in San Francisco.”

It is unclear how long it will be before the senator returns to Washington. “Don’t expect it this week,” Feinstein’s spokesman told Axios.
