Sen. Josh Hawley of Missouri revealed that the Secret Service apparently turned down offers of drone surveillance at a Pennsylvania rally where former President Donald Trump narrowly avoided an assassination attempt.
According to a whistleblower cited by Senator Hawley, law enforcement authorities provided drone security several times before the July 13 rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. In a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, Hawley expressed his frustration, stating that the technology was available and could have been used to improve security at the event, but the Secret Service rejected the offers.

Hawley didn't mince words in criticizing the Secret Service's alleged denial, questioning it and demanding answers from Secretary Mayorkas regarding what he called “staggering security lapses.”
The senator plans to meet with Department of Homeland Security officials at a congressional hearing scheduled for next week.
“It is difficult to understand why the USSS would refuse to use drones when offered,” Hawley said in his letter, noting that the Secret Service allowed the author to fly a drone over the concentration area only a few hours before the incident.
