A body found on the remote island, the search continues for others

The body of an American tourist, who had been missing for three days, was recently discovered on the remote and rocky shores of Mathraki, a small Greek island with only 100 inhabitants. The man was last seen at a local company cafe. of two women who have since left the island. This incident is one of several recent cases where tourists have died or gone missing on the Greek islands, often after embarking on excursions in extreme heat.

In a similar incident, a 74-year-old Dutch man was found dead in a ravine, just 300m from his last known location. The discovery was made by a fire service drone six days after his disappearance. They had seen him struggling to walk in the scorching heat.

Greek officials are currently searching for three more missing tourists in the Cyclades island group. Two French women, aged 64 and 73, went missing in Sikinos on Friday after leaving their hotels for a meeting. A 59-year-old American tourist is also missing after he went on a solo excursion to Amorgos and had not been seen since Tuesday.

Earlier this month, the body of British TV doctor Michael Mosley was found on the Greek island of Symi, four days after he went missing. CCTV footage suggests he fell near the spot where his body was discovered. Mosley had embarked on a solo walk from Saint Nikolas Beach. His wife, Clare, expressed her gratitude to the people of Symi for their tireless efforts in the search for her husband.

Greece has been struggling with two consecutive heatwaves, with temperatures soaring to 45°C (113°F) in some regions. Local media have urged officials to inform tourists about the potential dangers of hiking in such intense heat.
