An attempted armed robbery at a Norwalk tobacconist took a fatal turn for one of the perpetrators when the store owner shot and killed him Tuesday morning.
The incident happened on Firestone Boulevard around 9 a.m., Lt. Johnsen of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department confirmed.

The store owner reported that he had shot one of the suspects in self-defense, which led to the suspect being found in an alley with a gunshot wound to the chest.
Despite being taken to the hospital, the suspect did not survive the encounter and the incident was marked as a homicide by LAST.
The two remaining perpetrators attempted to flee, but were thwarted as their getaway car was engulfed, forcing them to flee on foot.
Law enforcement quickly initiated a containment area to locate and arrest the fleeing suspects.
