The sergeants were injured during a scuffle with Dorsett, who now faces charges including attempted murder, criminal possession of a weapon and robbery. Sgt. Carl Johnson, 43, of the 5th District, was shot in the groin and Sgt. Christopher Leap, 34, of Precinct 7, was grazed in the left leg by the same bullet.

Both officers were taken to Bellevue Hospital, with Leap being released later that night and Johnson remaining hospitalized the next day.

Dorsett, identified as a known gang member by NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny, allegedly robbed several women in a Mahjong parlor before the standoff with the sergeants.

The robber was arrested after a fight over a vehicle, during which Dorsett allegedly fired shots.

The officers did not return fire. Dorsett, who has three prior arrests, was on probation and had checked in that morning before the incident.

He was previously involved in selling crack cocaine to an undercover cop and was sentenced to three years probation.

Dorsett was taken into custody at the 5th Precinct overnight and later charged with two counts of attempted murder of a police officer and two counts of attempted murder while in commission of a felony.

Police recovered a Taurus .45 semi-automatic handgun at the scene.
