US Rep. Nancy Mace attacked US Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle, calling her vague answers lies to Congress.
“The American people are watching and wondering if there are any questions you can honestly answer today,” the South Carolina Republican began questioning Cheatle during her appearance before the House Oversight and Accountability Committee.
Mace joined other lawmakers in voicing their frustrations with Cheatle repeatedly dodging questions about what happened during the July 13 assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump during a Pennsylvania rally.
Mace informed the director that he was going to ask “very specific questions” and wanted “very specific answers” in response, adding that “most of my questions will require a yes or no answer.”

“My first question…you've been asked for your resignation today by both sides of the aisle. Do you want to take my five minutes to draft your resignation letter?” Mace asked, eliciting a 'no' from Cheatle.
The deputy continued to pepper the director with questions about whether the security failures in protecting the former president were “a colossal failure” and whether the tragedy was “preventable.”
“Has the Secret Service been transparent with this committee?” Mace asked. “Would you say we had to issue a subpoena to make you appear transparent today?”
“We had to issue a subpoena for you to appear today,” the lawmaker said as Cheatle maintained the agency's transparency and cooperation.
Questioning Cheatle's position that the Secret Service is not political, Mace demanded to know why the director's prepared remarks were leaked to select media outlets hours before they were presented to the House committee.
“Would you say leaking your opening statement … several hours before sending it to this committee as a policy? Yes or no?” Mace asked
“I have no idea how my statement came out,” Cheatle replied, prompting Mace to retort, “Well, that's bull…”.
“You say you are fully cooperating with this committee?” Mace continued with his questions.
“Have you provided all the audio and video recordings in your possession to this committee as we requested on July 15th, yes or no?” Mace asked.
“I should get back with you,” Cheatle replied.
“That's a no. You're full of shit today,” Mace replied. “You're just being completely dishonest.”
At the time, Rep. Kweisi Mfume (D-MD) was heard saying, “We have to maintain decorum in this committee, no matter how upset we get.”

Mace admonished the Secret Service director who had already frustrated several lawmakers who had questioned him on both sides of the aisle.
“These are important questions that the American people want answers to, and you're just ducking and talking about them in general terms,” Mace said, “and we had to subpoena you to be here and you won't even answer the you ask.”
“These are not difficult questions,” he continued. “Have you provided any of this information that this committee has requested from the Secret Service? Anything?”
“I'll have to get back with you,” Cheatles replied.
“Did you even read this letter we sent? Did you read that?” asked the deputy.
“The answer is no, we have not obtained a single document, information or data from you or your agency in relation to the concentration that we have asked you,” he continued, and asked the director if the attempt L' Was Trump's assassination “a failure in training or execution or both?”
“How many Secret Service personnel have lost their jobs because of this colossal failure at this point?” Mace asked.
“None,” replied Cheatle, who has refused to resign.
