“You attack a federal officer…”

-

Fox & Friends co-host Steve Doocy continued to veer left on Thursday, quelling his colleagues' fury at federal investigators probing bank and business records linked to Jan. 6.

Congressman Jim Jordan (R-OH) and the House Select Subcommittee on Federal Government Armaments obtained documents detailing searches of bank records for terms like “MAGA” or “Trump,” as well as others like “Small arms”. Cabela's and Dick's Sporting Goods.

“According to this analysis, FinCEN warned the financial institutions of “extremism” indicators that include “transportation expenses, such as bus tickets, rental cars, or plane tickets, for travel areas with no apparent purpose,” or “the purchase of books (including religious texts) and subscriptions to other extremist media”. views,” Jordan noted in a letter sent to former FinCEN Director Noah Bishoff.

“In other words, FinCEN used large financial institutions to review their customers' private transactions for suspicious charges on the basis of protected political and religious expression,” he said in the letter he reported. Fox News.

“House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, said documents obtained by the committee indicate that after Jan. 6, 2021, the Department of Homeland Security's Office of Stakeholder Engagement and Inclusion Treasury's Strategic Operations Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, or FinCEN, distributed materials to financial institutions that described “typologies” of “various persons of interest” and provided banks with “suggested search terms and codes of merchant category to identify transactions on behalf of federal law enforcement,” Fox News wrote.

“The materials included a document recommending the use of generic terms such as 'Trump' and 'MAGA' to 'search for paid messages from Zelle,' as well as a 'FinCEN prior analysis' of “Indicators of Lone/Local Actor Violent Extremism“, the medium continued.

Political correspondent Brooke Singman reported that there also did not appear to be a stated end date for the data searches.

In that moment, Doocy pointed out clearly that “this all happened during the Trump administration.” Singman conceded the point, but returned to Jordan's claims that the surveillance continued after President Biden's inauguration.

Fox & Friends co-host Ainsley Earhardt commented: “Basically, we have no privacy. This is an invasion!

Doocy explained why he believed the feds were looking into bank and retail records after Jan. 6.

“You know what Bass Pro, Cabela's and Dick's Sporting Goods sell? Bear spray,” he stated. “There were a number of police officers, federal officers who were attacked, allegedly and some people have been convicted since then because they used bear spray. . . . If you attack a federal officer, there's going to be a federal investigation, obviously. I don't know. I'm just suggesting they all sell bear spray.”

The back-and-forth on the topic continued as the co-hosts discussed the legality of the research and subsequent invasion of privacy.

Doocy asked, “Ultimately it comes down to doing what this FinCEN is doing, was it allowed by law?”

“Because if you have your bank and other banks that are also waiving these things, and I don't know. Jim Jordan has put a lot of stuff out there, but there aren't many details. We don't know if it was legal. And, if it was legal, apparently they can. When you sign in to a new account, the terms of service, you know. You are going to comply with federal law. Maybe this is one of them. We don't know,” Doocy said, seemingly justifying the action.

He would go on to double down on the alleged fact that the surveillance took place during the Trump administration as if that somehow explained why federal authorities were looking into Americans' personal data. The primary focus of the investigation appears to have been on January 6, indicating that the Biden administration and Democrats were involved.
