A recent poll released by Premise Data finds Republican presidential front-runner and 45th President Donald J. Trump is beating his opponents in both the Republican primary and the 2024 general election.
The survey covers the period from July 7 to 14. The Premise Data poll finds Trump leading the Republican field by a sizable margin. Among those polled, 58 percent of voters would like the Republican Party to renominate Trump for a third consecutive presidential bid. Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) trails considerably behind, with 19 percent support. Former Vice President Mike Pence (R-IN) is the only other candidate to get five percent of voter support.
All in all, at least in the Republican primaries, this is Trump’s race to lose. While Governor DeSantis had significant momentum heading into 2023, it appears that Trump responded effectively to the growing threat. DeSantis will have to make some significant campaign changes if he wants to catch up with Trump; because as of now, even if all the other candidates dropped out and threw their support behind DeSantis, he would still lose “by a landslide.” But even worse for the DeSantis campaign, Trump actually does better in a head-to-head matchup with the Republican governor. With all other candidates eliminated, Trump won 65 percent of the vote, with DeSantis getting just 26 percent.
This is just the news Team Trump wanted to hear. But perhaps even better, for Team Trump, the 45th president is dominating President Biden in a hypothetical 2024 general election showdown. Trump’s America First vision for our country resonates better with voters than Joe Biden’s sad and pathetic attacks on our nation’s founding.
The poll reveals that 41 percent of voters are giving their support to Donald J. Trump. Only 34 percent of voters say they will vote for Joe Biden. About 25% of voters said they were currently unsure.
When the Trump vs. Biden matchup is changed to DeSantis vs. Biden, the results are more favorable for the Democratic president, albeit with an important caveat. Biden has 31 percent of support in a showdown with Gov. DeSantis, with the Florida Republican taking 29 percent of the vote. However, the number of voters who said they weren’t sure who to support rose to 40 percent, 15 points more than the Trump-Biden matchup. That’s no doubt because DeSantis has less name recognition than the presidents of the last two administrations.
All in all, poll after poll shows Trump dominating all major contenders as 2024 inches closer.
