“I’m always open-minded about serving my country,” Hurd told Fox News. “And I’ve been fortunate to be able to serve my country in many different ways. Beyond the CIA and Congress, Hurd is also known as the author of the book American Reboot: An Idealist’s Guide to Getting Big Things Done. The book details how he believes the GOP needs to change its approach to politics and how the US can reform its political system.
Hurd’s visit to New Hampshire on Saturday will be the same day former President Donald Trump visits the state. Trump has already announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination. Polls for Trump in the state were split, with 43 percent of the state’s primary voters supporting Trump’s bid for president and 42 percent wanting a different candidate, according to the latest New Hampshire poll Journal/Coefficient published on Friday.
“The fact that people in New Hampshire can see different messages is important,” Hurd said when asked about sharing the spotlight with Trump on Saturday. “That’s what’s really great about the Republican Party. We have a diversity of viewpoints and opinions… We should have a competition of ideas. That’s the only way we’re going to make sure this experiment called America continues to exist.”
