Wild Olympic closing ceremonies with Tom Cruise and Snoop Dogg spark more controversy

-

“California Dreamin'” made a nod to Paris's Olympic nightmares in a closing ceremony that embodied Tinseltown with stunts and stars that weren't without a little more controversy.

Since the blasphemous opening ceremony, the 2024 Olympics have seen other low points that included an E. coli-tainted triathlon, women's boxing tainted by gender ideology and a spat between gymnasts. Helping to put those moments in the past as the torch was passed to the next host city, performances by the likes of Snoop Dogg and HER were overshadowed by Tom Cruise's “Mission: Impossible” stadium jump.

The 62-year-old actor and producer embodied Hollywood during the award ceremony as he descended from the roof of the Stade de France to cheers from everyone present.

The star known for pushing the envelope was greeted by renowned gymnast Simone Biles and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass (R) who presented her with the Olympic flag. Cruise then set off on a motorcycle that led to a pre-taped ride through Paris and a skydive return to the Golden State.

The delivery sent the broadcast to Venice Beach, California, where the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Billie Eilish and Snoop along with Dr. Dre foreshadowed the 2028 Los Angeles Games.

While offering contributions from their own catalogs, Grammy Award-winning R&B artist HER thrilled the audience in France with her rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” before a fireworks display seen surrounding the roof of the stadium

Of course, like the opening ceremony, the closing of the Paris Olympics was not without problems interspersed with a suspended pianist and acrobats, as some countries felt slighted by the stage design.

The stylized world map, assembled with geometric shapes, left out a number of island nations, including New Zealand, a point of contention for the country that overtook Australia in medals per capita.

Also, since the pagan festival of Dionysus led many to boycott the games to imitate Leonardo da Vinci's painting “The Last Supper” in an anti-Christian manner, including men dressed as women in lewd costumes, observers did not they were able to avoid finding a similar theme in the closing ceremony.

Dubbed “the golden traveler”, a figure was lowered onto the stage and then presented with a Greek flag in honor of the origins of the Olympic Games. The flag was delivered by a cloaked figure while the golden figure admired a headless statue representing Nike.

While some accepted the interpretation of the traveler as an extraterrestrial observing the tradition, others could not help but see similarities with Satan cast out of heaven, with some suggesting that he had “started with satanic rituals, so he must end with satanic rituals.”
