White House 'swatting' victim: Fire trucks and EMS vehicles dispatched to fake 911 call

-

The “Brandon” joke reached “criminally dangerous” levels on Monday when the president became just the latest high-profile target of an apparent “hit.”

On any given day, President Joe Biden's typical gaffetastic demeanor is enough to pour him into a barrage of relentless punchlines. Yet on Monday morning, when more than a dozen emergency vehicles were dispatched to the White House, the commander in chief wasn't even home to experience firsthand the potentially serious consequences of a report fake to 911.

Reporting the incident, CNN producer and reporter Betsy Klein shared on social media: “Another dangerous and troubling hit-and-run incident this morning: A caller falsely told 911 that the White House was in flames and someone was trapped in. A major emergency response [with] multiple @dcfireems units dispatched over 7 hours before it was determined to be a false alarm.”

Noting further that the president had spent the weekend at Camp David before a trip to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to participate in an event observing Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Klein noted, “The sending of “Radio audio of the incident indicates several DC fire engines and medical services. First responders were dispatched to the scene. “Fire at the White House, 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue,” the dispatcher says at 7:04 a.m. morning. The situation was described as 'all clear' at 7:15 a.m.”

CBS News' Sara Cook specified that 13 units representing Washington, DC's Fire and EMS had been sent to the executive director's residence, before adding an official statement from his director of communications, Noah Gray.

“At approximately 7:03 a.m., the Office of Unified Communications (OUC) received a 911 call of a structure fire at the White House. At 7:04 a.m., DC Fire and EMS were dispatched and , in coordination with the United States Secret Service, it was determined that there was no fire emergency. All businesses returned to service by 7:16 a.m.,” Gray said.

While instances such as the president jokingly saying “Come on, Brandon,” a colloquialism recognized as “F*ck Joe Biden,” are considered harmless fun, and satire mocking characters public has a long tradition in American culture. , “to cover” was described by CNN as “a dangerous criminal hoax where a false report is made to the police for the express purpose of luring them to a location… This can lead to a heavy-handed response from local police and SWAT teams, who do not have way to know that the call is a hoax”.

An increase in the practice, which also puts community members at risk as resources are diverted from responding in the event of a real emergency, saw Republican lawmakers and prominent right-wing media figures they were victims of the practice.

That included Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and New York Rep. Brandon Williams who were hit on Christmas Day, while Florida Sen. Rick Scott, George Washington University Law School professor Jonathan Turley and John Paul Mac Issac, the former owner of Hunter Biden's infamous laptop, were victims in the following days.

ABC News reported that when officials attempted to contact someone from the number where the call originated, the person denied responsibility, “stating [the number] It was probably forged.”

As news of the attack on the White House spread, so did disbelief, even in Biden's America, where days earlier there was a vehicle. he hit at an outer gate of the residence and, separately, Hamas sympathizers had unleashed a evacuationit remained hard to believe that the president could be the victim of such an attack.
