Adjusting to a winning holiday weekend that saw Sens. Mike Lee of Utah and Marco Rubio of Florida throw their weight behind Trump ahead of his Iowa caucus win, Cruz became the 25th member of the upper chamber to “enthusiastically” support the third candidacy for the White House.
Joining Fox News host Sean Hannity on Tuesday, Cruz wasted little time commenting on The Hawkeye State's “decisive” and “dominant” result that put the president atop the pledged delegate count after the first official contest with 20 Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. at the age of 8 and ex-ambassador of the UN. Nikki Haley at 7.
“I'm a big believer in letting democracy play. Well, last night it was played out and I have to say that Trump won by a landslide, he won 51 percent of the vote, he won 98 of the counties,” the senator told “Hannity,” adding, ” Congratulations to President Trump. in this dominant victory.”
“And at this point, I think that race is over. So I'm proud to support Donald Trump for president of the United States, I look forward to supporting him enthusiastically because I think it's time for the Republican Party to unite, let's unite,” said Cruz.
The junior senator from Texas hadn't been nearly as definitive about his decision after the hotly contested 2016 primary, where he finished as runner-up to then-businessman Trump and, when he spoke at the Republican National Convention, had refused to extend a full total. endorsement
Instead, the then freshman animated Americans “show up and speak out and vote their conscience, vote for the candidates you think will be true to the Constitution,” before pledging support weeks before the election.
Cruz went on to state, “We must defeat Joe Biden. We must defeat this disastrous cultural Marxist agenda in the White House. We must take back the United States Senate. We must keep the House. We must come together and win and with last night's results, the people have spoken, it's time to move on to victory in November.”
The Texas lawmaker's sentiment was not as universally shared as some expressed concern about the small fraction of registered Republicans who actually participate in the Iowa caucuses each year, suggesting the results reflected more apathy than enthusiasm, even with the severe winter weather as a factor. .
110,000 of the 752,000 registered Republicans voted in Iowa last night. What a mess.
The first votes cast in America for a presidential election and we got a 15% turnout. lmao
Can you feel the excitement?!

Continuing his argument for settling the primaries based on the results of a lone contest, Cruz claimed there was no way forward for the remaining candidates.
“New Hampshire could be very contested, we'll see what happens… I think in South Carolina, you'll see Trump win a landslide victory in South Carolina. And after that, you have Super Tuesday,” the senator remarked. After that I don't see any way for any candidate. And I'm a big believer, we have to let the process unfold. He did, and last night's results (51%, 98 counties) are convincing. And on that point, I think the contrast has to be on substance, policy and record.”
After his endorsement on Fox News, Cruz added a statement to X and an email was sent, each providing a link to donate like the most recent one. filing because the Republican National Committee showed they had less than $10 million in cash on hand at the end of November.
