Watchdog calls for probe into Biden official behind EV push

-

The Department of Transportation (DOT) inspector general has been called in to investigate a senior official in Democratic President Biden’s administration who has been leading the push to force Americans to switch to electric vehicles (EVs).

A complaint was filed by watchdog Protect the Public’s Trust against Ann Carlson, acting administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

In a Monday letter to DOT Inspector General Eric Soskin, the watchdog alleges that Biden violated the Federal vacancy reform law (FVRA) when he appointed Carlson.

The FVRA states that the president may not appoint an incumbent to a position if the person has not served for at least 90 days as chief assistant to the vacant job or if the president submits his nomination to the Senate for a appointment during the 365 days. before the vacancy arises.

The alleged violations of these clauses would mean that Carlson’s appointment was illegal.

According to the letter, any actions taken by Carlson in the role “will be of no force or effect.”

Carlson, formerly the agency’s chief counsel, had served as NHTSA’s acting administrator since September 2022.

He assumed the position after the resignation of the former administrator, seconds in the White House.

In February 2023, Biden announced that he would nominate Carlson to lead the agency permanently.

However, Senate Republicans closed his nominationlargely because of his earlier statements about using high energy prices as a launching pad to advance the globalist green agenda.

His other comments have also indicated Carlson’s support for hardline climate policy.

The pushback forced Biden to withdraw Carlson’s nomination in May.

Since retiring, he has remained in the role on an interim basis and oversaw the agency’s proposed updates to the corporate average fuel economy (CAFE) standards in July.

The upgrades would drive up car costs and lead to an “EV mandate,” Dan Kish, senior research fellow at the Institute for Energy Research, previously warned.

“This is becoming standard procedure when people, through their senators, reject Biden administration nominees over concerns about experience, activism and conflicts of interest,” said Michael Chamberlain , director of Protect the Public’s Trust, in a statement.

“For the administration to have taken a similar stance with one of Secretary Buttigieg’s top deputies, Ms. Carlson, it appears that, once again, the self-proclaimed most ethical administration in history has put its agenda above constitutional checks and balances. .

“This is not the way to restore confidence in the federal government.”

NHTSA’s primary mission is to “save lives, prevent injuries, and reduce the economic costs of traffic accidents through education, research, safety regulations, and enforcement.” seconds on the agency’s website.

Carlson had no prior professional experience directly related to the auto industry or traffic safety before working for NHTSA, according to Protect the Public’s Trust.

She is one of several officials the White House has managed to fill in influential bureaucratic positions despite failing to clear the Senate confirmation process.

“Presidential candidates must gain office through constitutionally sanctioned procedures, not through backdoor attempts to thwart the separation of powers in an effort to enact an administration’s preferred policy outcomes,” says the complaint

“The Office of Inspector General should immediately investigate these violations of the Federal Vacancy Reform Act and prevent Ms. Carlson from further involvement. ultra vires activities.”
