After Florida Governor Ron DeSantis made his official bid to win the Republican primary, he has taken direct aim at leader and former President Donald Trump.
After initially treading carefully around Trump, DeSantis let go of his reservations during his recent announcement. In a video statement, DeSantis tried to capitalize on Trump’s signature slogan. But DeSantis stumbled when he delivered “You’re fired,” Trump’s catchphrase reminiscent of his use on The Apprentice.
“I don’t know what happened to Donald Trump, he’s a different guy today than when he was running in 2015 and 2016,” DeSantis said. “You have to know how to use your power to advance what you’re trying to achieve.”
“What I was able to bring to the governor’s office was an understanding of how a constitutional form of government works, the different pressure points that exist, and how best to leverage authority to achieve substantive political victories,” he said. continue
“Presidents have been unwilling to exercise Article Two power to discipline the bureaucracy,” DeSantis added. “I’ll come in and we’ll be spitting nails on the first day.”
He’s copied everything else from Trump, why not steal from The Apprentice: “If I’m president, if someone like Fauci is in government, I’m going to bring them in and tell them two things:
you They are fired.” pic.twitter.com/HLVEJxH59G

“If I’m president, if someone like Fauci is in government, I’m going to take them and tell them two things: you. They are fired.”
Obviously, this is not “two things”. But more questionably, the misstep raises problems with DeSantis’ strategy to align with Trump’s rhetoric.
In response, Trump fired back, referring to DeSantis as “Rob DeSanctimonious” and criticizing his declining poll numbers.
“Rob’ DeSanctimonious and his polls are dropping like a stone,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “I’d almost be inclined to say they’re record lows.”
“The question is is Rob just young and inexperienced and naive or more worryingly, is he a fool who has no idea what the hell he’s doing?” it continued. “We already have one in office, we don’t need another one. We need MAGA.”
Raheem Kassam, editor-in-chief of the National Pulse, was most critical of the DeSantis campaign so far.

“They’re wearing MAGA’s fur suit,” argued Kassam. “If you think it started as a shadow campaign, it’s just going to be a shell campaign.”
It will be interesting to see if DeSantis will seek to contrast Trump more after the criticism or if he will stick to his strategy of courting Trump supporters during the Republican primaries.
