When you think of the quintessential liberal CEO or Facebook executive, Chamath Palihapitiya is likely the face that comes to mind. This Sri Lankan-born Canadian-American venture capitalist, engineer, SPAC backer and CEO of Social Capital was also one of Facebook’s first senior executives. Check all the boxes on the “woke up left” checklist.
Bye now…
Palihapitiya recently had a surprising change of heart. He went from being a staunch critic of Trump to not only underestimating the strategy behind Trump’s alleged “craziness,” but respecting it. It’s one of the most powerful stories of change you’ll ever hear. A popular X account that goes by “KanekoaTheGreat” shared this amazing podcast:
Chamath Palihapitiya highlights President Trump’s remarkable Middle East peace deal through the Abraham Accords, underscores the growing need for a US border wall, and points out the corporate media’s lies about Jared Kushner.
@Chamath: “As a Democrat, who has become homeless, who is now definitely in the center, but probably leaning more and more to the right, I am again left with a thank you, despite the messenger of the message, of the Trump administration, because what those guys did was pretty incredible.
In retrospect, these Abraham deals, the deals with Israel and the GCC, the quasi-deal between Israel and Saudi Arabia, to really be able to find a lasting peace. He is just a real example to the world. And those guys did a great job.”
@Jason: “It’s a miracle when you look at it. Listen, I’m not a Trump fan, but if you look objectively at what they did, it was a great job.”
Chamath then asks if the “Trump derangement syndrome” is causing more harm than President Trump, with leftist and media bias against the messenger overshadowing the importance of the message?
@Chamath: “I think the answer is yes… A lot of the work that happened in that administration turned out to be right… The border wall work, we didn’t like the messenger. So we killed the message turned out to be correct.
Issuing long-term debt to refinance when rates were at zero. We didn’t like the messenger, so we killed the message. A structural peace agreement in the Middle East. We didn’t like the messenger, so we killed the message…
When will we take the time to look past who said things and hear them word for word? …If you listen to this @lexfridman podcast, the biggest thing that’s glaringly obvious about @jaredkushner is that he’s incredibly thoughtful and incredibly competent. And why did we have to spend years feeding all these stupid lies?
Because one can judge for oneself. But Jared Kushner is thoughtful. He is intelligent. And I thought to myself: For years I was fed all these lies about how this guy was messing around in the shadows and this and that, and it wasn’t all true.”
Raise your hand if you prefer “mean tweets” to the war raging around the world.

This story restores your faith in humanity, doesn’t it? Someone like Palihapitiya would normally be dismissed as ‘lost’ or ‘intractable’, and life would go on. But it just goes to show that if we ditch the hostility and nastiness in favor of politeness and gentle explanation, we might be able to move forward and even change our minds. Food for thought…
