WATCH: Kaine reiterates call for ‘necessary’ investigation into Biden documents

Sin Tim Kaine (D-VA) continued his call for an investigation into President Joe Biden’s classified documents on Sunday.

Kaine appeared on CBS’ Face the Nation to comment as a senator on the Armed Services and Foreign Relations Committee that he has admittedly only read classified documents from a secure room where they were left when he finished reading them. The senator stressed that “an independent prosecutor and an investigation are necessary.”

“The government has a tendency to overclassify. If they’re looking at a document and they have to analyze it, then they decide whether to classify it, sometimes they just mark it classified,” Kaine said. “I’ll read it in the SCIF [Sensitive compartmented information facility] and say Margaret was reporting it a month ago or The Washington Post has been telling me about it for the past six months.

This comes two days after Kaine initially recommended an investigation into the discovery of classified documents at Biden’s home in comments on Fox News. Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), among others, have agreed that an investigation is appropriate.
