A shifting story about a “war criminal” selfie saw the Washington Post's Taylor Lorenz on the defensive over an alleged “meme reference” and President Joe Biden.
As Hamas sympathizers descended on Chicago to protest the DNC and “Killer Kamala,” it appeared that “Genocide Joe,” the titular lame duck, had not been forgotten. So it was with a post of questionable intent from Lorenz, who was caught altering her claim after the New York Post reported on a private selfie with the president and the controversial hashtag.
After sharing the offending image in a history by Jon Levine of the New York Post, fact-checks on the image included the claim: “Taylor Lorenz says it's a digital manipulation that added a fake caption.”
However, after NPR informed that Lorenz had told her own editors that someone else was responsible for the “war criminal” overlay on her selfie, while receiving confirmation that four separate people who saw her private post confirmed its authenticity, the reporter went have a different story, insisting it was a joke. between friends

That claim came after she had responded to a comment thread that included NPR's fact-check by arguing, “I literally never denied it was real.”
Levine had made a similar claim when he reported, “The Washington Post's Taylor Lorenz calls President Biden a 'war criminal' … She denies it's real, but she has a long history of lying about things like this, and it came to me. from someone you trust. So take that as you will.”
A community note attached to Levine's post stated: “Despite Taylor Lorenz's denial that she added the caption in question, four people who saw it on her private Instagram story verified its authenticity to NPR “.

What was certain as an excuse about the post was that Lorenz had initially countered Levine's post with the comment, “You guys are going to fall in love with any dumb** anyone edits,” assigning responsibility to someone else for the caption “criminal of war”. .
In response to the selfie, a spokesperson for the Washington Post he said Fox News Digital, “We are aware of the alleged social media post and are investigating.”
The apparent investigation comes after an Australian-based reporter for The New York Times came under fire doxxing a private group of Jewish business professionals leading to vandalism and death threats.
