Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) made headlines for all the wrong reasons during a rally in Philadelphia on Tuesday, where he mocked his rival JD Vance (R-OH) with a crude joke.
Walz, who is Vice President Kamala Harris' running mate, made the joke to a cheering crowd.

“I can't wait to debate the guy,” Walz said, drawing cheers from the audience. He followed up with, “That is, if he's willing to get off the couch and show up.” The audience responded with laughter and applause.
Here's Tim Walz making a joke about the viral JD Vance couch thing, which was something some random guy on Twitter completely made up by posting a fake Hillbilly Elegy page. pic.twitter.com/KLql3C5I01

The joke was in reference to a fake meme falsely claiming that Vance had a sexual encounter with a couch, based on a fabricated quote from his memoir, Hillbilly Elegy.
This meme has been circulating among some progressives who have tried to disparage Vance.

Said the author of the hoax Business Insider that the ease with which the bogus subpoena was accepted “has not strengthened his faith in the critical thinking skills of the electorate”.
Walz, who is supposed to represent Midwestern decency, launched his campaign with a sex joke based on misinformation.
The Kamala Campaign X Kamala HQ account amplified Walz's misinformation:

Walz also posted a vertical version of the comments on the X account:
Like every regular person in America's heartland, JD Vance studied at Yale, had his career funded by Silicon Valley billionaires, and wrote a bestseller that shattered that community.
Come on.
