Voters polled indicated which issue was most likely to hurt Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign, and President Donald Trump was already on message.

According to survey conducted by JL Partners for the Daily Mail, prominent among the possible lines of attack for 1,054 likely voters was their support for a bail fund that freed criminals who later committed murder.
Of the issues surveyed, the only concern was clarifying half, with 54% of respondents seeing it as less favorable, while 9% believed it made it more favorable.
“If the Trump campaign wants people to feel that Harris is too liberal, dangerous or crazy, they need evidence,” said James Johnson, co-founder of JL Partners. “Our poll shows there would be worse places to look than her bond fund decision when she was a senator. It's real, relatable and alarming to voters of all colors and creeds.”
The find was recent report noted that then-California Sen. Harris had not only tweeted his favor for the Minnesota Freedom Fund, but actually published an entire blog post in May 2020 that read in part: “Today, in solidarity with those protesting, I ask for your help if you can.”
“Do you make a contribution to the Minnesota Freedom Fund, an organization that works on the ground in Minnesota to post bail for arrested protesters?” he asked that among those released by the bail fund were a number of individuals who committed violent crimes that in some cases resulted in death.
Shawn Michael Tillman was sentenced to life in prison for killing a man in St. Paul, Minnesota in 2022, while George Howard pleaded guilty to killing a man during a road rage incident in Minneapolis in 2021 after each was released with the help of the funds raised. Similarly, Darnika Floyd's release preceded her conviction for stabbing a man to death after he refused to have sex with her.
“In a political campaign you need to find the message, but also the proof point to back up the message. Without both, it doesn't stick with voters,” said Johnson, who reflected on the previous failed campaigns of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and now-Utah Sen. Mitt Romney.
“'Crooked Hillary' worked because of her emails. The attacks on Trump for being a big drama in 2020 had her aggressive debate performance and record during COVID to back them up,” he said. “Romney seemed out of touch not only because Obama kept saying it, but because he had his 47 percent comment to back it up.”
Like the previous one voting of JL Partners found Trump with a marginal lead over Harris, the president could already be seen using some of the messages promoted on X as he shared an image that read: “TIM WALZ LETTING MINNESOTA BURN… KAMALA HARRIS SALUTED THOSE HE LIGHTED MATCHES,” plus an ad featuring her in her own words talking about “Defund the Police” initiatives.
