In a recent discussion about climate change and its implications for business, billionaire entrepreneur Mark Cuban and Vivek Ramaswamy presented differing views on the topic.
Mark Cuban, a staunch advocate for addressing climate change, stated: “To me, I believe climate change is real. I believe it's man-made, and if that's the case, I'll be a pro at anything that mitigates that risk, because there's nothing more important to me in the value chain, right, in my risk analysis and treatment of probability than what will create the best world for my children?”
Inconvenient truths for the climate cult:
– 8 times more people die from cold temperatures than warm ones
– The earth is more covered with green surface today than a century ago, because CO2 is the sustenance of plants.
– The correct answer to all temperature-related deaths is greater… pic.twitter.com/itIcq6j1q9— Vivek Ramaswamy (@VivekGRamaswamy) August 8, 2024

Instead, Vivek Ramaswamy acknowledged the reality of climate change, but said he does not believe it is an existential threat. “Do I think global surface temperatures are rising? Yes, I do. Do I think there are man-made causes that might play a role in this? It seems plausible that it might actually be the case. However, I don't think this is an existential risk to humanity.”
Ramaswamy further argued, “You could put probabilities around it, but if you look at the hard, harsh realities, eight times more people die from cold temperatures than from warm temperatures, the Earth is now covered in more green land today than it was a century, because carbon dioxide is actually subsistence plant food. And the right answer to all these temperature-related deaths, cold or hot, is more abundant access to energy, which requires fossil fuels.”
Cuban responded with skepticism, asking, “What if you're wrong? Nobody knows for sure, right?”
Ramaswamy responded, “I can participate with that. I can participate with that, right? Because I think that's legit, even if there's a 1% chance that you're wrong, how do you know? My only answer is that you can wrong both ways, right?”
Cuban warned of potentially serious consequences, saying, “In my case, in my case, it costs money. In your case, your kids, my kids could be potato chips, and their kids might not have a chance “.
Ramaswamy concluded: “So this debate is going to go on for a long time, and I'm very interested in it. You know, I have a book coming out later this year that looks at all the different angles of this. By that, the part that interests me, but on the business point, okay, why should it be an individual company or a CEO considering what they're doing for their own business to address climate change? Wouldn't that make your business less competitive relative to your Chinese peers? None of whom, by the way, care about climate change in the first place.”
