VIDEO: Ashli Babbitt’s Mom Arrested By Capitol Police – Disgraceful!

Ashli Babbitt’s mother was arrested by Capitol Police on Friday, two years to the day after Babbitt was killed by police during the Jan. 6 Capitol assault.

Video circulating on Twitter appears to show Babbitt’s mother, Micki Witthoeft, being held up against a vehicle by Capitol Police as a crowd taunts her. Political commentator Charlie Kirk tweeted that Witthoeft had been “holding a memorial service” for the second anniversary of his daughter’s death.

It is not clear from the video why Witthoeft was arrested or where exactly it took place. At one point, a person in the crowd shouts, “What’s the crime? What is the crime?”

In the video, police repeatedly tell people in the crowd that they are blocking traffic and that they should move back to a sidewalk. The crowd shouts back, saying the police are blocking traffic and accusing them of killing Babbitt.

A woman says, “You murdered her daughter two years ago at the Capitol, and now you’re arresting…”

An officer replies, “I didn’t murder your daughter.”

Babbitt, an Air Force veteran, was shot and killed during the storming of the Capitol, when a crowd supporting then-President Donald Trump entered the building.

As the only protester killed by Capitol Police, Babbitt became a martyr for Trump supporters. Babbitt’s mother has defended her, saying she had been “a proud American patriot” and was “murdered by a careless and reckless officer.”

Babbitt was shot while standing in front of the crowd, trying to climb through a window into an area directly outside the House Chamber, where representatives were crouching. People in the crowd alerted an armed officer moments before a single shot sent Babbitt tumbling back into the crowd.

The moment was caught on video.

The officer who shot her, Lt. Michael Byrd, acted lawfully, according to an internal investigation, and did not face discipline. He later said that he “showed the utmost courage” that day.
