Upon receiving the report from Wasatch County dispatch, Summit County deputies rushed to the area to locate the wrong-way driver. An officer saw the vehicle continue the wrong way in the left lane of the eastbound travel lane. The deputy placed his own car in the path of the oncoming truck, causing a head-on collision that stopped the wrong-way driver.
After the incident, the officer was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries and has since been released. The driver at fault was reportedly not injured.
The crash was caused in part by a medical emergency related to the driver's low blood sugar.
The Summit County Sheriff's Office praised the deputy's quick response and courageous intervention in preventing a potentially dangerous roadway situation.
