The U.S. Embassy in Lebanon issued a warning Saturday to American citizens to leave the country ahead of possible “emergency situations.”
The security alert recommended that American citizens in Lebanon make plans to leave or prepare to “take refuge in place for an extended period of time.” The alert comes like the country anticipate a retaliatory effort by Israel following a missile attack by Lebanon-based Hezbollah terrorists that killed 12 children on July 27.
“We encourage those wishing to leave Lebanon to book any available ticket, even if that flight does not depart immediately or does not follow their first choice route,” the embassy alert reads. “We recommend that US citizens who choose not to leave Lebanon prepare contingency plans for emergency situations and be prepared to shelter in place for an extended period of time.”
Several airlines have suspended or canceled flights into the country, but there are still commercial options, according to the alert.
“We urge American citizens to develop a crisis action plan and to leave before a crisis begins,” said Rena Bitter, US Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of Consular Affairs. in a video posted on the account of the US Embassy in Beirut X on July 29. .

The Israeli Defense Forces launched a targeted attack against Hezbollah in Beirut on Tuesday.
There are tensions between Israel and Hezbollah get up in recent months since Hamas's deadly Oct. 7 attack on Israel, which left at least 1,200 dead. Hezbollah has supported Hamas and its Lebanese strongholds on the border with Israel.
