University of Houston homecoming party turns violent: Seven injured in shooting

-

A large college homecoming party outside Houston turned into a scene of chaos and violence when seven people were injured in a shooting. The incident happened around 10:00 p.m. Sunday at a homecoming party for Prairie View A&M University, located about 50 miles northwest of downtown Houston.

Upon arrival, detectives discovered that two men, two women and a juvenile male had been shot, all with injuries to their lower extremities. Fortunately, none of the injuries appear to be life-threatening. The party, described as a “trail ride pasture party,” was held in open fields a short distance from the college campus.

The event, which attracted more than 1,000 attendees, quickly turned sour when an argument turned into gunfire. At this stage, investigators are unclear how many people opened fire, but it has been confirmed that each of those injured was an innocent bystander.

The party was organized by a promoter, whose identity has not been released, and had been given the green light by Waller County’s top official. However, it has been observed that none of the agreed security protocols were followed at the time of the shooting.

Local television footage captured the aftermath of the incident, with ambulances and at least one emergency helicopter responding to the scene. By Monday morning, the party site was littered with trash and some abandoned vehicles.

Prairie View A&M, a historically black university with more than 9,000 students, is now grappling with the aftermath of this violent incident. This shooting comes just a month after a similar incident at a historically black university in Maryland, where five people were injured and a lockdown ensued for several hours.

In the Maryland incident, police arrested a 17-year-old and issued an arrest warrant for an 18-year-old man, neither of whom were students at the school. As the investigation continues in Houston, authorities are determined to bring those responsible to justice.
