Checking the facts
In the digital world, it’s common to encounter misinformation and harmful content, but it’s relatively easy to verify that the content you find is trustworthy. To detect false and biased information, including hate propaganda, be sure to check the source of the content with the help of search engines, fact-checking tools, and other reliable sources. You can also download images and run them through image search tools to find out where they first appeared.
We all know how unbiased fact checkers are…
report
Most online platforms and communities have rules to keep user discussions respectful and will allow you to easily report hate messages to administrators or moderators. Read social media platforms’ guidelines and tips to protect users from harassment and hate speech. For more serious cases, which may constitute incitement to violence, harassment and/or threats prohibited by law, notify organizations that fight hate speech and/or file a complaint with the police (or prosecutor) . Some countries have online tools to make it easier to report hate speech.
It’s always funny to see organizations like the UN encouraging people to report others for saying bad things… what could possibly go wrong with that strategy?
