Ukrainian military spokeswoman Sarah Ashton-Cirillo has been temporarily suspended pending an investigation. The decision comes in response to threats by the transgender former US soldier to “hunt down” critics of the war in Ukraine.
The Territorial Defense Forces of Ukraine announced the suspension on Wednesday.

“Statement of the Command of the Territorial Defense Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine regarding some statements of the TDF spokesperson, Staff Sergeant Sarah Ashton-Cirillo… JSgt Ashton-Cirillo’s statements in recent days were not approved by the command of the TDF or the command of the AFU. When conducting military operations against the aggressor, the defense forces of Ukraine strictly observe the norms of international humanitarian law,” the UTDF announced.
“The TDF command will conduct an official investigation into the circumstances of these statements,” the UTDF added. “Appropriate actions would be taken. Sergeant Sarah Ashton-Cirillo will be suspended immediately pending the investigation.”
Ashton-Cirillo had posted a video on X on September 13 where the threat was made.

“And this puppet of Putin is only the first that Russia’s war criminal propagandists will be prosecuted, and justice will be served as we in Ukraine are guided in this mission by faith in God, freedom and complete liberation.”
The statements generated immediate criticism on social networks for their insidious nature.
A former transgender American soldier who goes by the name Sarah Ashton-Cirillo recently moved to Ukraine to become the English-speaking spokesperson for the Ukrainian military.

The Ukrainian government has wisely suspended Ashton-Cirillo and opened an investigation.
