UK police hit with crowd-sourced fact-check about 'man and woman' being convicted

Muted responses couldn't stop Community Notes from gutting a UK police force's claim about the sentencing of a gender-confused man in connection with the sexual abuse of a child in a short sentence.

“Nothing says we know we're wrong like disabling comments on @gmpolice.”

Greater Manchester Police issued a statement on Friday detailing the sentencing of Jonathan Walker, of Pontsticill, Merthyr Tydfil, and Nathan O'Brien, of Ashton-under-Lyne, in relation to the sexual abuse of a four-year-old boy . Only, the GMP found it appropriate to respect “the gender identity of pedophiles” and detailed that the combined sentence of almost 17 years was apportioned to “A man and a woman . . .”

“#COMPANY | A man and a woman have been sentenced to a combined sentence of 16 years and 9 months in prison for their roles in the sexual abuse of a child,” the post read with a photograph of the “woman” with the explanation: “Naomi O'Brien”. , of Ashton-under-Lyne, received a total of 4 years and 3 months in prison.”

Amassing nearly 3 million views at the time of this publication for the dubious details, Community Notes issued a scathing and pithy rebuke of GMP that read: “No women were involved in this crime. The perpetrators were both men. The Naomi's first name is Nathan, and she was born male, but she identifies as trans. She claimed a trans identity in 2013.”

The note linked to a Daily Mail report detailing how at 23 O'Brien had modeled under the name Morgan Naomi Clarke in the hope of becoming the winner of the first Miss Transgender UK and “Although Morgan s “Identifies as a woman, she doesn't want a full-on gender reassignment. However, she is saving up to pay for a breast augmentation, chin reshaping surgery and a hair transplant to feminize her appearance.”

Meanwhile, the police release stated: “O'Brien pleaded guilty to three counts of willfully aiding and abetting another to commit a sexual assault on a child, two counts of willfully aiding and abetting another to engage in sexual activity in the presence of a child. child and engage in sexual activity in the presence of a child.”

It also noted that investigators found communications between the parties that indicated “a sexual interest in children” and that “O'Brien incited Walker to sexually abuse the victim on several occasions in March 2023.”

Reposted more than 2,300 times, a litany of comments ranged from praising Community Notes for its “undefeated” record in the fight against nonsense or bashing the police for falling for the diversion of a convicted sex offender.

Outspoken athlete-turned-activist Riley Gaines commented: “Thank God for the community notes, even though no one believed for a second that it was a woman. They should at least be jailed for life . Disease.”

“Dear Greater Manchester Police. Stop this nonsense. This is a man. How dare you refer to him as a woman,” detailed another with a link on where to make complaints about the police, as one claimed plus, “One of the best things about community notes is that they're immune to accounts blocking or limiting replies? . You want to spread misinformation on Twitter, go for it, but you'll be checked honestly and openly.”
