UK Deputy Prime Minister Resigns After Bullying Allegations

United Kingdom dDeputy Prime Minister Dominic Raab has resigned from his post following the bullying allegations, he announced on Friday.

Raab’s behavior was reviewed by an independent investigator and was prompted by eight complaints about his actions while acting as foreign secretary, Brexit secretary and justice secretary. Chief Minister Rishi Sunak received the investigator’s report on Thursday.

“I called for the investigation and promised to resign, if any bullying was found. I think it’s important to keep my word,” Raab said in his resignation statement posted on Twitter. He added that the review dismissed all but two of the complaints against him, saying those two findings are “flawed and set a dangerous precedent for the conduct of good government.”

He reiterated his position once again in his statement, which ran to a page and a half.

“By setting the threshold for bullying so low, this inquiry has set a dangerous precedent. It will fuel spurious complaints against ministers and have a chilling effect on those pushing for change on behalf of your government and ultimately the British people,” he added. .

Raab had been deputy prime minister since October and also held the post under former prime minister Boris Johnson’s government.
