donald trump iHe is the overwhelming favorite to secure the Republican presidential nomination in 2024. He has increased his lead over Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) to more than 40 points in the latest poll.
The Morning Consult poll of 3,571 likely Republican primary voters, conducted May 12-14, showed Trump’s largest margin yet. The former president’s share of support among Republican voters is 61%, with DeSantis trailing in second place at 18%.

The rest of the candidates and potential candidates achieved single-digit support, including former Vice President Mike Pence, who has 6%.

Republican operatives recently launched a super PAC, the Committed to America PAC, supporting Pence’s potential GOP run.
Former Gov. Nikki Haley (R-SC) and Republican businessman Vivek Ramaswamy are currently tied, each with 4%.
The poll comes after Trump criticized DeSantis in an interview with the Messenger on Monday. “He has no personality. And I don’t think he has a lot of political skill, in his politics and personality,” DeSantis said.

The comments followed DeSantis casually taking aim at Trump and saying the Republican Party has created a “culture of losing” over the weekend at a rally in Iowa.
Trump has dominated the 2024 GOP primary polls against his hypothetical GOP opponent, who is poised to announce his presidential bid soon.
